Carl H. Guenther first built his San Antonio home, now known as The Guenther HouseĀ®, for his growing family when they moved from Fredericksburg, Texas, in 1859. Over the next 127 years, the house served as, respectively, the family home, a test kitchen, administrative offices and a storage facility. Then, in 1986, with traditional family pride and dedication, the Guenther family and the family-owned
C.H. Guenther & Son, Inc. began to restore the home to its former glory.

Today, we're proud to announce that The Guenther House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Each year, visitors from around the world come to see The Guenther House Museum, The Guenther House Restaurant and private dining facility and The San Antonio River Mill Store retail shop.

Come see the beauty of The Guenther House for yourself. The house has been restored with exceeding attention to detail and period authenticity. In fact, all of the original structure and many family furnishings are still intact. The parlor, for instance, dates back to 1860 and reflects the beautiful late Victorian influence of that time, complete with "Rosini" lace and gold-leaf accents.

The original living room now serves as the restaurant's stunning dining room, boasting Art Nouveau stained-glass window panels and decorative plaster. In addition, the restored roof garden, with its lovely open terrace, is the perfect setting for private meetings and dinners.

Guests of The Guenther House also love to browse the San Antonio River Mill Brand Store. The rooms of the store, which were once the home's music room and a bedroom, feature decorative tile work and lovely fireplaces. The store offers a wide range of San Antonio River Mill products, custom stoneware and cookware, and distinctive gifts.

Offering authentic Southern hospitality, the doors of The Guenther House are proudly open to receive visitors. We're located on a bend of the San Antonio River, at the foot of King William, one of the oldest historical districts in Texas. Our address is:
