1981: Flood control work on the San Antonio River includes archeological excavation of C.H.
Guenther's 1868 mill site upstream.
1982: Robert Schupbach dies at 48 and is succeeded by Michael Wood, 36, chief financial
officer. Five months later Wood is killed in a plane crash and is succeeded by
Board Chairman Scott Petty, Jr.
1983: Pioneer launches its "Southern Success Since 1851" regional advertising campaign.
1984: Scott Petty, Jr. reverts to board chairman and is succeeded as president by Beatrice
Foods executive Richard DeGregorio. Major warehouse, new quality control and
research development laboratories are built.
1985: Flour-based Old-Fashioned Country Gravy Mix - first in a line of convenient gravy mixes
- is introduced and soon becomes one of the company's best-selling products.
1987: Acquisition of Texas Custom Bakers in suburban Dallas puts Pioneer in the frozen baked
goods and biscuits market. Subsidiary is renamed Wheatland Farms and, later,
Pioneer Frozen Foods.
1988: After a two-year restoration of the C.H. Guenther home, originally built beside the
mill in 1859, The Guenther House opens as a restaurant and historical museum.
1992: No-Fat Biscuit and Baking Mix is introduced.
1993: Pioneer begins producing baking and biscuit mixes in a convenient, resealable and
reusable canister.
1996: White Wings Ready-to-Eat Flour Tortillas are introduced.
1999: Corporate identity, long assumed under the Pioneer Flour Mills name, is reestablished
as C.H. Guenther & Son, Inc., the legal designation since 1899.
2000: Pioneer retail Taco and Chili Mixes are reintroduced.
2002: Richard DeGregorio retires as President and Dale Tremblay is named President
and CEO of C. H. Guenther & Son, Inc. C.H. Guenther expands operations
to Prosperity, South Carolina expanding frozen and dry mix capabilities.
2004: C. H. Guenther enters the retail frozen food market offering biscuit and roll
dough products throughout the southeast.
2005: C.H. Guenther expands frozen biscuit product line to
include Cinnamon & Icing Biscuits and Country Gravy Biscuits under the
Pioneer brand.
2005: C.H. Guenther enters into a joint venture and
establishes East Balt Guenther Bakeries in the United Kingdom and Belgium. These
bakeries are primary suppliers to McDonalds for Buns and English Muffins.
2006: The Morrison Milling Company of Denton, Texas, a long-time marketer and
manufacturer of grain based products, is acquired, complementing C.H.
Guenther's marketing area throughout the South Central United States.
2006: C.H. Guenther introduces Pioneer microwaveable gravies with four flavors, including Country, Brown, Roasted Chicken and Roasted Turkey gravies. Add the Country and Brown microwaveable gravy images to the CHG History timeline.
2008: Williams Foods of Lenexa, Kansas, a leading producer of dry seasoning mixes and meal enhancing products, is acquired, extending C.H.
Guenther's consumer product line. Williams brands include Sunbird, Country Store and Williams.
